Abstract
Using indium phosphide-based heterostructures, we have shown how light can be confined in a two-dimensional photonic crystal slab using low group velocity modes, leading to enhanced spontaneous emission. Stimulated emission was observed on different crystal symmetries, with a very low threshold at room temperature.
