Bit-rate and distance limitations of subcarrier multiplexing on multimode fiber

Abstract

Transmission at frequencies above the intermodal bandwidth limit of multimode fiber is modeled, and performance limits of SCM systems are evaluated. With appropriate coding, a total bit rate of 1.6 Gb/s may be achieved over a distance of 9 km.
