Abstract
Geometrical multipass amplifiers have been extensively studied1-5 for their capacity to provide both high gain and high extraction efficiency. They are also simpler and come cheaper when compared to the regenerative amplifiers1 for example. However, the geometrical multipass amplifiers described in the literature are for the most part planar, resulting in a non-optimal overlap between the gain volume and the laser beams in a longitudinally pumped configuration. Planar multipass geometry consequently reduces the available gain, leading to an increase of the number of passes necessary to reach optimal performance. In this paper we present a new simple and compact multipass configuration which optimize the overlap between pump and signal beam.
