Abstract

A toroidal-micro-cavity of three dimensional (3D) Rayleigh-Fabry-Perot whispering gallery modes formed in the peripheral region of the active multi-quantum-well planes of a VCSEL-like structure (Fig. 1), shows ideal quantum-wire properties such as T dependent spectral shifts as predicted by the photonic-quantum-ring (PQR) formula.1,2 The submicron PQR devices are also a promising candidate for nano-ampere and ideal few quantum dot lasers.3
