Abstract

Photorefractive semiconductors are well suited for telecommunication systems because they are sensitive in the near infrared. Cadmium telluride possesses the highest electrooptic constant among all these materials. This results in the largest two-beam coupling gain factor known for semiconductors without applied electric field reported for CdTe:Ge at 1.06 μm.1,2
