Abstract

Considerable recent attention has been focused on quantum dot (QD) lasers for their enhanced characteristics.1 There has recently been significant progress2–6 in fabricating such lasers and demonstrating some of their superior parameters over the conventional quantum well lasers [the lowest threshold current density and the lowest chirp (near-zero alpha-parameter) ever reported for semiconductor lasers]. High power continuous-wave operation of QD lasers has also been achieved.6
