Abstract
Bit error rates and eye diagrams in optical transmission systems are commonly estimated by running Monte Carlo simulations and extrapolating the results.1 This method is time consuming and not always reliable, In this work, we report on the application of linearization2,3 to calculate the eye diagrams and bit error rate in a single-channel chirped return-to-zero (CRZ) system propagating over 6,100 km.
