Abstract
In order to increase transmission capacity, many researchers have proposed using Optical Vestigial Sideband (OVSB) transmission with optical filter1,2 or Optical Single Sideband (OSSB) with electrical phase-shifting techniques.3 OVSB reduces channel bandwidth, but residual sideband still occupies a significant portion of the transmission spectrum and limits the spectral efficiency. OSSB with electrical phase-shifting techniques usually require complicated analog electronic circuitry and the data rate is limited. In our approach, we generate a broadband OSSB transmission signal with FBG as the sideband filter. There is no RF electronic circuitry involved.
