Abstract

Raman fiber lasers (RFL) possess a unique ability to generate cw radiation with a high efficiency practically at any wavelength within the transparency window of optical fibers.12 RFL are one of the most attractive pump sources for Raman and for rare earth fiber amplifiers. The application of phosphosilicate fibers as an active medium of RFL allows one to decrease the number of cascades, to simplify the laser design, and hence to reduce its cost. Lasers based on high P205-doped fibers can potentially have a higher efficiency than RFL based on standard Ge-doped fibers.
