Abstract

Broadly tunable and efficient laser operation of Cr2+:ZnSe have been reported for different pump sources, as for example Co2+:MgF2 lasers1 or Tm:YAG/YAP lasers.2,3 However, the efficiency of cw laser diode pumping of Cr2+:ZnSe was still restricted to 14% so far and the output power was limited to several tens of milliwatts.3−5 For many applications, e.g. medical use or trace gas analysis, an efficient compact diode pumped Cr2+.ZnSe laser is of great demand.
