High Density Holographic Data Storage Despite Misaligned Data Pages

Abstract

A post-processing algorithm for compensating misregistrations between a detector array and the coherent image of a pixelated 2-D data page was recently proposed and demonstrated.1 This algorithm accounts for both the linear and quadratic interpixel crosstalk contributions expected for intensity detection of coherent light, and reallocates them to the appropriate neighboring pixels. Here we use a numerical simulation to investigate the interplay between this signal processing algorithm and random noise, and solve for the resulting impact on achievable storage density. An improved algorithm is demonstrated, in which an intentional magnification error is introduced optically and then corrected during post-processing/ Experimental results show acceptably low bit-error-rate (BEK) independent of the misalignment of the data page.
