Abstract

Applications like micro machining or dental surgery demand stable sources of ultra short pulses with a repetition rate of several kilohertz, milli- joule energy levels and good beam quality. To this end, two MOPA systems, based on Nd:YVO4 and Yb:YAG thin disks as amplifying medium, have been studied experimentally. The advantages of the thin disk concept for this application are the small depolarization losses and the scalability to high power.
