Abstract

By fully utilizing unique features of femtosecond pulse from a mode locked Ti:sapphire laser such as short pulse duration, high energy density and good coherency, we have encoded micro-holo- graphic optical elements (HOEs) either on or beneath material surfaces.1,2 The materials we have investigated include transparent dielectrics such as single crystals of Al2O3, SiC, LiNbOj, ZrO2, ZnO, CaF2, CdF2. MgO, and TiO2, glasses, plastics and metals.
