Abstract

Many distance-measuring instruments use intensity-modulated or pulsed light, and therefore require a precise value of the group-refractive index of air, rather than that of the phase-refractive.1 Usually, thcgroup-refractivc index is theoretically derived from the measured phase-refractive.2 The accuracy of the group-refractive index is, therefore, lower than that of the phase-refractive index.
