Abstract

The well-known advantages of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) such as longitudinal mono-mode emission, efficient fibre coupling, small power consumption and on-wafer testability are particularly attractive for light sources in the technologically important 1.3-1.55 μm telecommunication range.
