Dispersion maps for ultra long distance, terabit capacity WDM

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Dense WDM using dispersion managed solitons could be the basis for complex, all - optical networks extending across a large geographical area, such as that of the North American continent. New fiber types and new methods for characterizing them are making it possible, for the first time, to create special dispersion maps that meet the stringent requirements for such transmission.
