Abstract

Erbium lasers emitting in the 1.5-1.6 μm wavelength region are important for several applications in eyesafe telemetry and ranging.1,2 Until recently these lasers have been characterized by relatively low output efficiency values, particularly in flashlamp-pumped operation.1
