Abstract

The rapid development of erbium based lasers operating in the 3-μm region has been dictated by the ever increasing use of these lasers in medical, dental, remote sensing, and other scientific applications. The high absorption by water in the 3-μm region ensures efficient interaction between the laser emission and both soft and hard tissue.
