Complete Polarisation Control of Top-Surface Emitting Vertical Cavity Lasers With High Quality Spectral and Spatial Output Characteristics

Abstract

Complete polarisation control is demonstrated in circular top-surface emitting vertical cavity lasers by placing a line etch near the cavity aperture. The etch orientation determines the dominant polarisation state of emission and a high beam quality is maintained.
