Abstract

Sr2Be2B2O7 (SBBQ) is crystallized in space group P6c2, with the cell dimensions a = 4.683(3) Å, c = 15.311(7) Å, and z = 2. The crystal is negative uniaxial. By use of a high-temperature flux method with SrB2O4 as the flux, crystals of size 5 × 5 × 4 mm3 have been grown. The growth temperature ranges from 1050–1100°C with the melt point (1146 ± 2°C) very near to the upper, end. The crystal is transparent from 160-3780 run. According to the Da, point group, there is one second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient d22 that was determined as 1.52 pm/V by use of the phase-matching method. This measured value is in agreement with the theoretical evaluation value of 1.44 pm/V.
