Abstract
The saturation of the absorption of Cr4+: YAG at 1.064 μm has been shown to depend on the polarization of the optical field relative to the crystallographic axes.1,2 This has been interpreted as evidence that there are three sets of Cr4+ centers whose dipole moments for transition from the ground state to the excited state are aligned parallel to the crystallographic axes [010], [001] and [100] of the YAG host.
