Abstract

Various efficient nonlinear frequency-conversion applications, such as second-harmonic generation and optical parametric oscillation, were demonstrated with potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO4, or KTP). This is mainly due to its high nonlinear optical coefficients, low optical loss, high optical damage threshold, wide acceptance angle and thermally stable phase-matching properties.3 In recent years, there has been renewal of interest in the electro-optic (E/O) applications of KTP, such as E/O modulators and Pockels cells.1,5 We have already demonstrated an intracavity frequency-doubled and Q-switched Nd:YVO4 miniature laser by a single KTP crystal.1,2
