Abstract

The use of optical power-limiting amplifiers (OLAs)1 in the protection n rings of SONET self-healing ring (SHR) architecture can reduce the network cost drastically.2 However, the indispensable optical filters restrict the OLAs to carrying wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission.
