Abstract

Spatially inhomogeneous optical intensity patterns are created when two mutually coherent optical fields interfere inside photoconductive semiconductors with a finite intersection angle. Diffusion of photo-generated free-charge carriers ensues due to the nonzero concentration gradient, resulting in the formation of an internal space charge electric field.1 Freecharge carriers can be steadily drifted out of the host material by a constant speed moving space charge field generated by running optical fringe systems caused by the mismatch between the center frequencies of the optical fields. As a result, dc photocurrents can be detected even in the absence of external bias fields.2
