Abstract

In this paper we present an experimental and theoretical study of a novel travelling-wave laser scheme1,2 utilizing orthogonal polarization of the counter-propagating waves in the active medium provided by the use of a modified orthoconjugate reflector (MOCR). The scheme provides a travelling-wave operation while allowing the wave in the cavity a double pass of the active medium each round-trip, combining the advantages of ring- and linear-cavity topologies.
