Abstract
Gain, linewidth enhancement factor, and refractive index changes are crucial design parameters for semiconductor laser diodes. Accurate knowledge of the line-width enhancement factor is particularly important for designing low-chirp, highspeed, long-wevelength laser diodes. Recently, Fabry-Perot (FP) mode spectrum was used to get the gain profile of a high-speed long-wavelength laser diode.1 This, so-called Haki-Paolr2 method, is relatively simple to implement. However, it gives FP mode spectrum in rather limited spectral range and care must be used to get the minimum and maximum values of the spectrum.
