Abstract
Although shipboard sonar systems have been the preferred method for the detection and ranging of objects submerged in the sea, lidar systems have become popular because of their greater area-coverage rate.1 The main disadvantage of lidar is that it lacks coherent detection schemes, which limits system sensitivity and underwater-target contrast.
