Abstract

Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) provides the large bandwidth required for multimedia transmission in fiber optic systems. Future WDM networks will require rapid packet switching for improved connectivity. Thus optical transmitters and receivers that are tunable at submicrosecond rates will be needed.
