Detection of combustion species by using two-photon polarization spectroscopy

Abstract

Polarization spectroscopy, a technique originally developed for Doppler-free measurements,1 has recently been applied to the detection of flame species.2 Developments related to 2D species visualization and 2D thermometry have been reported.3 Two-photon-excitation schemes were first applied to measurements of sodium vapor.4 In the present paper we report what we believe to be the first measurements obtained by using two-photon polarization spectroscopy for the detection of flame species, e.g., NH3 and CO molecules.
