Abstract

The fast dynamics of polarization switching in strained semiconductor lasers gives direct insight into nonlinear interaction between differently polarized laser modes occurring in the gigahertz frequency range and is relevant to optoelectronic-device application.1–3 The response of a laser that exhibits switching between TE- and TM-polarized modes to a change in injection current provides information on intrinsic self-modulation and mode competition.
