Abstract

The development of a high-brightness, fiber-coupled diode-laser pump source is a key issue in achieving high-average-power diode-pumped solid-state lasers suitable for space applications. In particular, fiber coupling of the diode-laser pumps permits most of the waste heat of the laser system to be located remotely from the laser head. The oscillator-amplifier architecture provides both high-energy and short-duration 1.06-μm pulses while circumventing high-peak-power damage of the optical components.
