Abstract
Well-controlled modifications of the amplitude and phase spectra of ultrashort optical pulses are essential for creating the variety of temporal shapes needed for applications in laser physics, laser chemistry, and ultrafast spectroscopy. Specific examples are chirped-pulse amplification, multiphoton excitation of anharmonic oscillators in atoms, molecules and solids, and coherent control of chemical reactions
