Abstract

Metalo-organics have recently been under extensive study for use in optical-limiting applications. Most of the attention has been given to metalo-phthalocyanines, which have emerged as the leading candidates for such applications.1,2 In this paper we discuss results of picosecond and nanosecond measurements on zinc meso-tetra(p-methoxyphenyl) tetrabenzporphyrin (ZnTMOTBP), which has a structure similar to that of a phthalocyanine. We use the Z-scan technique3 and a mode-locked frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser that produces single switched-out 28-ps (FWHM) pulses to analyze the nonlinear absorption and refraction in ZnTMOTBP at 532 nm.
