Abstract

Studies of gain gratings produced by the interaction of optical fields in inverted gain media have demonstrated their potential for efficient nonlinear optics. The use of four-wave-mixing (FWM) interactions through the formation of gain gratings allows the production of a phase-conjugate field that can also be utilized for self-pumped FWM in loop geometries; either externally injected1 or, as in this paper, self-starting from spontaneous emission.2
