Abstract
Two dimensional arrays of smart pixels [1] are essential for high-speed, high-throughput photonic switching [2] or spatial light modulator [3] applications. Large scale manufacturing of these optoelectronic circuits, which use optics for input and output, and electronics for amplification, memory and logic functions, has challenged the monolithically integrated GaAs technology [4]; however, the emerging GaAs on Si CMOS hybrid technology [5] is very promising.
