Abstract
Rapid developments with II-VI semiconductor lasers have produced cw diode lasers in the 510-nm range1,2 whose device lifetimes are now extending to 1 h.3 One present challenge is shortening the wavelength further into the blue, especially for optical storage applications. We report what is to our knowledge the first operation of a blue diode laser in the 460-nm spectral range, under pulsed conditions at room temperature.
