Abstract

In exploting the bandwidth capabilities of optical transmission, it is desirable to avoid the electronic bottleneck due to the present-day requirement of translating the optical signal into an electronic signal for switching and for logical processing. Sauer et1 have designed a slotted soliton ring network with a 40-Gbit/s payload data rate, a 1.25-GHz packet rate, a 100-Gbit/s peak bit rate, and 254 users.
