Abstract

High-speed polarization self-switching was demonstrated in external-cavity laser diodes (LDs) including a quarter-wave plate (QWP).1 Polarization-self-switching waveforms at frequencies up to 10 GHz and the rf spectra of the modulation signal at frequencies up to 18 GHz were observed.2 One important application for such high-speed switching is all-optical clocking.3
