Unidimensional direct phase determination of femtosecond light pulses

Abstract

In this work we present a simplified version of a former method for obtaining the phase of a ultrashort light pulse in the frequency domain.1,2 In this method the frequency derivative of the spectral phase is obtained from the time displacement of the cross correlation of the pulse with a spectrally filtered version of it. Hence, in order to obtain the phase information with the original method it is necessary to perform a cross correlation for each frequency at which the spectral filter is centered. It becomes clear that the measurement of the complete correlation function contains information in excess of the needed for the phase measurement, and the price to be paid for this redundance is the time necessary to obtain the data.
