Abstract
In photon-echo data storage temporal data are stored as a frequency-dependent population grating. The present paper concerns optically erasing and replacing photon-echo data by rewriting the stored data sequence with a 180° phase shift for the data or write pulses.1-4 Other techniques, such as heating the sample to erase stored data, are not so attractive since all data bits stored in the crystal will be erased, but with the technique used here a single data bit in a data stream can be erased while all other data bits in the same spatial location, as well as in other spatial locations, are retained.
