Changes in membrane permeability from laser-induced stress transients

Abstract

In the last few years, observations at our laboratory, as well as at other laboratories around the world, have suggested that there is a transient increase in the membrane permeability of cells exposed to stress transients.1,2 Since the cell membrane is involved in various cellular functions, changes in the membrane permeability will affect cellular processes and may cause cell death. It is therefore important to study the kinetics of the membrane permeability changes due to laser-generated stress transients.
