Abstract
The third harmonic of a glass laser has been used in the newest laser fusion program in order to obtain higher energy absorption in a target. Highly-damage-resistant optics are strongly demanded in high-power-laser systems. There is a less information on the surface-damage thresholds of optical components for UV lasers than for IR lasers. We report the effects of materials and finishing methods on the surface-damage thresholds at the 355-nm wavelength, and we also report the relationship between the bulk-damage thresholds and the wavelength of irradiated lasers from UV to IR.
