Abstract

The commonly used optical method of laser detection and ranging of distant objects usually involves a telescopic system. However, at least two major problems arise in this case. The first is the atmospheric turbulence along the beam path which causes fluctuations in the refractive index of the medium, hence deterioration of the resolution and distortion of the image formed by the telescopic system.
