Low-light performance of a ground-based two-aperture Fizeau interferometer employing optical fibers

Abstract

Due to atmospheric turbulence, ground-based interferometry without adaptive or active phase corrections would perform poorly, if one were to directly correlate wavefronts from individual (albeit co-phased) pupil planes, wavefronts that are highly phase-corrupted and essentially incoherent for large pupil sizes.
