Abstract

Nonlinear optical frequency mixing techniques offer a rich set of tools for measuring, comparing, and synthesizing optical frequencies precisely and accurately. Sum and difference frequency mixing and optical parametric oscillation are used to generate optical radiation over a wide spectral region from the ultraviolet to the infrared. Special configurations, together with phase locking or beat frequency measuring apparatus, can be utilized to provide precise frequency information such as optical frequency division.
