Abstract

The OMEGA Upgrade at the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics is a 60-beam, 30-kJ on-target, frequency-tripled, Nd:glass system that is scheduled for completion in late 1994. This system is of a master-oscillator, power-amplifier architecture. Four stages of rod amplification drive two stages of disk amplifiers. The driver lines for this system are based on a large-aperture (40-mm) electro-optically switched ring amplifier (LARA). The inputs for the LARA are generated by a pair of fiber-fed, feedback-stabilized regenerative amplifiers.
