Reflection gratings in the photorefractive mutually pumped phase conjugators

Abstract

Photorefractive mutually pumped phase conjugation is the nonlinear process that simultaneously generates two phase conjugate beams with two mutually incoherent laser beams.1-3 It is very useful in many potential applications.4-5 In most configurations of mutually pumped phase conjugation, transmission gratings are responsible for the generation of the phase conjugate beams. However, it is inevitable in some circumstances such as laser phaselocking and coherent optical communication that reflection grating and 2 k reflection gratings are also generated. In this paper we analyze the effects of the reflection grating and the 2 k reflection gratings in the process of mutually pumped phase conjugation, schematically shown in Fig. 1.
