Abstract

The phase-modulation property of asymmetric Fabry-Perot (ASFP) quantum-well modulators,1 can be used during dynamic holography to generate π-phase gratings that quench the zero-order diffraction and disperse the light-field energy into the first diffraction orders with high efficiency. This phase grating is a general property of the ASFP and will be insensitive to the origin of the dynamic gratings, which can be generated by any of several techniques, including free-carrier gratings, absorption bleaching or electro-optic and photorefractive effects.2
