Abstract

The lasing on Xe atoms near-infrared transitions, resulting in direct nuclear pumping, was first reached in 1975. However, the infrared xenon direct nuclear-pumped laser (DNPL) is still being intensively studied, because of its record for DNPL output characteristics. Another important characteristic of this laser which affects applications is the laser medium utilizes a mixture of rare gases, which eliminates the problem of degradation of the laser mixture by undesirable chemical reactions.
