Abstract

The efficient generation of femtosecond VUV pulses is of great interest for experiments in solid state and plasma physics. With the recent development of ultraviolet high power femtosecond laser pulses, nonlinear parametric processes show considerable promise for the generation of VUV/XUV radiation in the femtosecond regime. Two recent studies show that multiple wave mixing in atomic gases can generate microjoule VUV short pulses1 and complex high order nonlinear processes can occur in an intense laser field.2
